The Prestonian Lecturer is the only lecture given under the authority of the United Grand Lodge of England. William Preston 1742 - 1818 was regarded as the foremost Masonic educator of his time and left a legacy to provide for an Annual Lectureship.
The current Prestonian Lecturer is Worshipful Brother George Boys-Stones. In 2019 he moved to Toronto and is the Professor of Classics and Philosophy at the University of Toronto. In his early years he studied in England as an undergraduate at Cambridge and as a graduate at Oxford where he was initiated in ther Apollo University Lodge No. 357. For the past 20 years he taught in the Classics Department at Durham University.
He holds the Grand Rank in the United Grand Lodge of England as the Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies and the in the Supreme Grand Chapter as the Past Grand Standard Bearer.
On Saturday morning of January 16, 2021 he was the guest speaker at the Past Masters Association of the Hamilton Districts Zoom meeting.
