Passing of Alan Grieve

 


​​​​​​​GRIEVE, Allan Stuart Passed away peacefully at Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of 66 years to Lois (nee Harrison). Deeply loved by his children Jeffrey (deceased), Doreen, Nadene (Michael), Darlene (Chris), Esther (Ken) and Stephanie (Jim). Special father-in-law to Deb. Cherished Papa to 14 grandchildren and Papa-Great to 10 great-grandchildren. Al devoted his life to service. He served on the Hamilton Fire Department, was a member of the Scottish Rite Masonic Lodge and a faithful member of Linden Park United Church. Al will be remembered for his gregarious laugh, his love of picnics and pie, family reunions and his famous shortbread cookies. He will be missed by so many, but he will be cherished and loved forever. Family and friends will gather at Linden Park United Church, 484 East 16th Street, on Saturday, March 25, 2017. Visitation at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Al's memory to the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice or a charity of your choice. "Tally ho!"

Born in Hamilton, April 7th, 1928.
Received his education in Hamilton at G.L. Armstrong Public School
and the Hamilton Technical Institute.
Served his apprenticeship as an automotive mechanic.
(Canada Coach Lines).
1951 Started work with the Hamilton Fire Department as a Fire Fighter.
1960 Promoted to Lieutenant.
1966 Promoted to Captain.
1969 Promoted to District Chief.
1973 Promoted to Director of Training.
1978 Promoted to Platoon Chief.
1979 Promoted to Deputy Chief.
1986 Retired from the Hamilton Fire Department with the rank of Deputy Chief.
 
Married Lois Harrison oi Hamilton in 1950.
We have five (5) lovely daughters and fourteen (14) grandchildren.
We have been very active members of Linden Park United Church since
1957 and were members of First United Church previous to this.

Masonic Career
1950 February 2nd -  Entered Apprentice Degree. (Tuscan Lodge # 551. Hamilton).
1950 March 25th Fellow Craft Degree. (Tuscan Lodge # 551. Hamilton).
May 4, 1950  Received the Master Mason Degree. (Tuscan Lodge # 551. Hamilton).
1966 May 3rd Became a member of Murton Lodge of Perfection. A. & A.S.R.
1966 November 2nd Became a member of Hamilton Sovereign Chapter of Rose Croix. A. & A.S.R.
1967 November llth Became a member of the Moore Sovereign Consistory. A. & A.S.R.
l98O—198l Was Thrice Puissant Grand Master of Murton Lodge of Perfection. A. 8 A.S.R.
1983 February 15th Became a member of The Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons. (The Hamilton, R.A.M. #175 G R.C.).
l983 September 15th Was made an Honourary Inspector General of the Supreme Council of the 33 A.& A.S.R. of Canada.
1984 Affiliated with Meridian Lodge #687.
l988~l989 Worship Master of Meridian Lodge #687.
